Freshly sworn-in Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya couldn’t be more thrilled after being handpicked by President William Ruto for the top job.
In a statement shared on her X account on Thursday, August 8, 2024, shortly after taking her oath of office, Tuya couldn’t hold back her gratitude pledging her commitment to serving citizens with integrity and dedication.
“Dear God, I am forever grateful for unending grace & favour… Thank you HE President of the Republic of Kenya @WilliamsRuto for the privilege to serve this great country as Cabinet Secretary, Defence,” She expressed.
She promised to adhere to the principles of servant leadership, uphold the Constitution, and faithfully perform her duties.
“To the citizens of Kenya, I promise servant leadership; I will obey, respect and uphold the Constitution of Kenya and all other laws of this Country; I undertake to hold my office of Cabinet Secretary with honour and dignity… I will perform the functions of my office conscientiously and to the best of my ability… so help me God,” she added.
No experience
Like 18 other CS nominees, Tuya was sworn in earlier today to the defence docket as part of Ruto’s newly reconstituted cabinet.
Previously serving as the Environment CS, her reassignment to the Defence docket attracted a lot of public scrutiny given her lack of background in the area, a fact she has acknowledged.
During her vetting by the National Assembly, Tuya acknowledged her inexperience in the affairs but emphasized her strengths in policy design and consultative leadership.
“There is much for me to learn regarding the ministry operations and administration,” she said.
Adding;
“I will heavily rely on my teamwork and consultative skills to grasp the operational and administrative responsibilities of the uniformed sector within the ministry.”
She assured the committee that she would rely on consulting to learn how quickly and effectively manage the Ministry of Defence.
