The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) on Thursday, August 8, 2024, praised President William Ruto’s appointment of two of its distinguished members to key cabinet positions, highlighting the crucial roles they will play in addressing Kenya’s pressing economic challenges.
In a statement, ICPAK expressed its support for the appointments of CPA John Ng’ongo Mbadi as Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, and FCPA Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya as Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development.
Both men are seasoned public servants and respected members of the accounting profession.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to CPA Hon. John Mbadi and FCPA Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya,” said CPA Philip Kakai, Chairman of ICPAK.
“Their appointments come at a time when the country needs strong, credible leadership to navigate the complex economic landscape,” he added.
ICPAK reminded Mbadi and Oparanya that they expect them to uphold the tenets of good governance as advocated by the institution.
“As you take up the mantle to discharge your respective mandates, it is our sincere hope that under your watch, the Country will reap the benefits of the Institute’s call for Credibility, Professionalism and Accountability as you strive to uphold the tenets of good governance.”
Mbadi, who will oversee the nation’s economic policies, and Oparanya, who will be responsible for empowering MSMEs, are stepping into roles that will require deft management of the economy.
ICPAK underscored the importance of their roles, particularly in addressing the high cost of living and the increasing difficulties faced by businesses.
“MSMEs are the backbone of our economy, driving job creation and innovation,” the statement read.
“ICPAK is committed to supporting these enterprises with proper financial management and advisory services to ensure their growth and sustainability.”
The institute also called for a unified effort across all sectors of society to combat corruption and enhance accountability, key issues that have long plagued Kenya’s governance and economic management.
“This new cabinet offers an opportunity for a fresh start, with a focus on equitable and accountable service delivery,” Kakai added, expressing hope that the appointments will lead to tangible improvements in the lives of Kenyans.
ICPAK pledged to continue working closely with the government to promote economic growth, service delivery, and wealth creation across the country.
