Kenya’s High Commission in London has issued an advisory to Kenyans living in the United Kingdom over unrest in the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, the Commission said Kenyans living in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to remain vigilant of their movement and follow guidance provided by the local authorities.

“The Kenya High Commission is closely monitoring the series of social unrest developing in a number of cities across the United Kingdom. The High Commission wishes to encourage Kenyans living in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to remain vigilant of their movement and follow guidance provided by the local authorities,” the statement read in part.

Kenyans in the UK have been encouraged to register with the High Commission via the Mission’s website.

Unrest in UK

BBC reports that the wave of violent unrest and disorder across parts of the UK continued on Monday night as police came under attack in Belfast, Darlington and Plymouth.

Media reports indicate that several hotels housing asylum seekers in the UK have been torched by far-right agitators.

“Protests led by far-right groups have escalated into clashes with police in multiple towns, as a wave of unrest, fuelled by xenophobia and misinformation surroundingĀ the tragic killing of three young girlsĀ in a stabbing incident, sweeps across the country. About 400 people have been arrested,” Al Jazeera reports.

The unrest started after three young girls were stabbed to death by a 17-year-old suspect, Axel Rudakubana.
