Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has predicted that President William Ruto and his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta will unite again through a handshake.
Uhuru and Ruto turned from political friends to foes, with the fourth Head of State distancing himself from his deputy and supporting the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) Raila Odinga in the 2022 general elections.
Now, Ngunyi, who became a popular political pundit following his assertion of the ‘Tyranny of Numbers’ stance before the 2013 elections, said a Ruto-Uhuru handshake is in the offing.
Already, Ruto gestured his willingness to work with his political rivals when he named Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi, Hassan Joho, and Opiyo Wandayi, all ODM’s stalwarts, in his proposed new cabinet.
Apart from predicting unity between Ruto and Uhuru, Ngunyi warned that such a move would put Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on a path towards impeachment.
“Dear Riggy G (as Gachagua is popularly known), do you understand what ODM joining the government means? And Uhuru-Ruto handshake, coming soon, would mean? It means impeachment. Not if, but when.
“If I were you, I would lie low like an envelope. But Ruto is a good man. However, do not push him,” Ngunyi posted on his X handle on Monday, July 29, 2024.
GEMA leadership
Gachagua, since his election as DP, has positioned himself as the de facto political leader of the Mount Kenya region. However, Ngunyi is of a different opinion, arguing that the former Mathira Member of Parliament has not been wholly accepted by the community as such.
“GEMA does not like you.
“If in two years GEMA has not accepted Riggy G, something is wrong with this son of the soil. Riggy G should enjoy being a DP for 10 years. He must know that everyone around him is an enemy. Only the paranoid survive,” Ngunyi added.
As Gachagua pushed for what he believed was the interest of the Mount Kenya region, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has been his staunchest supporter. Ngunyi, however, has advised the DP to tell the Kahiga to keep quiet.
“Dear Riggy G, ask Mutahi Kahiga to shut up. When not speaking, he speaks for you. You are not the only sons of Mau Mau. Your methods are those of a novice.
“Mau Mau was a secret organisation that spoke very little. Negotiate with Ruto. Not in public, in private,” the analysts continued.
