Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced there will be heightened security checks and protocols at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
KAA, in a notice issued on Monday, July 22, 2024, notified the passengers of the heightened security checks that have probably been necessitated by the planned Gen Z anti-government protests slated for Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
Potential flight delays at JKIA
In the notice, the authority advised the passengers to arrive at the airport early enough to avoid potential delays in catching their flights.
The passengers have also been asked to contact their respective airlines for the latest information on their flights.
“Due to heightened security checks and protocols at JKIA, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport early to avoid any potential delays in catching their flights. Kindly contact your respective airline for the latest flight information. Safe travels!” the public notice read.

Police have also warned protesters against accessing protected areas ahead of Tuesday’s planned anti-government demonstrations in Nairobi.
Police on JKIA
The protesters have been mobilising online for a Tuesday march to the JKIA after they previously stormed parliament successfully in an incident that saw several lives lost.
Acting Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja said on Monday, July 22, 2024, that while it is every Kenyan’s right to protest, they must take note of the legal boundaries that govern access to protected areas.
“The Protected Areas Act, Cap. 204 Laws of Kenya, prevents the entry of unauthorized persons into areas that have been declared to be protected areas. Protected Areas Order, as clarified under its Legal Notice No. 9 of 2011, Second Schedule, include the LPG Plant, the Bitumen Plant, and petroleum depots situated at the Embakasi Aviation Depot (JKIA),” the police statement reads in part.
