At the beginning of this year, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, shocked many people when she attacked President Uhuru Kenyatta over what she termed as an ailing economy and declining democratic space.

Following her remarks, she was blasted by a cross-section of leaders, including Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege and other politicians.

Despite pressure to apologise to President Kenyatta for claiming he wanted to cling to power after the end of his term in 2022, Ms. Wahome, an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, stuck to her guns.

She had described the President as the “biggest threat to Kenya’s economy, democracy and freedom of expression.”

And like Ndindi Nyoro, the Kiharu MP, Ms. Wahome has been one of Ruto’s staunches supporters in Murang’a County.

Speculations are rife Ms. Wahome is trying to carve out a name for herself as she eyes the Murang’a governor’s seat with Mwangi wa Iria’s second term ending in 2022.

However, Ms. Wahome is not a stranger to conflict having been filmed roughing up a returning officer in Kandara in the 2017 General Election.

In her defense, she said she was only trying to recover President Kenyatta’s stolen votes. She accused the returning officer of failing to give agents time to verify results before making announcements.

Now, Ms. Wahome is one of the key players in the Uhuru succession race, at least in Murang’a, and loses no chance to defend Ruto whom she supports for the top seat in 2022.

As she appears on K24’s Punchline show on Sunday, Ms. Wahome will tackle a range of issues, including her stand on the Building Bridges Initiative, President Kenyatta succession, support for Ruto, her 2022 plans and ideas to revive the economy.
