The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) maintains there is no vacuum in the country’s administration of sports contrary to reports going around.
On Tuesday, FKF acting chief executive Barry Otieno dismissed claims that the term of incumbent president Nick Mwendwa had expired on February 10, which is exactly four years after he assumed office.
A section of football stakeholders, including former federation president Sam Nyamweya, has called for a committee to be appointed before the next elections are held.
Mr. Otieno urged those spreading rumours about their term to familiarize themselves with FKF’s 2017 Constitution Article 43 that stipulates that the president is allowed to remain in office until the next election is held.
“The article is spelt out very clearly. Section 1 indicates that the president (FKF) shall be elected by the General Assembly for a period of four years and that this mandate shall begin after the end of the General Assembly which has elected him,’’ said Mr. Otieno.
Further, Mr. Otieno said that FKF is not ready to engage in any politics and would rather focus on the upcoming polls and if re-elected, he will strive to take the game to the next level.
