A 42-year-old man from Kibagare slums in Westlands, Nairobi, has been charged with assaulting a young woman, who had accused him of emptying out dirty water containing used condoms at the doorstep of the victim’s mother.

Geoffrey Ludenyo is alleged to have beaten up Lydia Nakhenya at 6pm on January 19, 2020.

Nakhenya is said to have gone to visit her mother at Kibagare slums, when she saw used condoms dumped on her mother’s doorstep.

There were signs that the condoms were immersed in dirty water, and the suspect allegedly emptied out the contents on the doorstep of Nakhenya’s mum.

Nakhenya said she heard her neighbour, Naomi, who was also affected by the dirty water, asking another of their neighbour, Sheila, why her boyfriend, Ludenyo, emptied out the unsightly content on her (Naomi’s) doorstep.

Nakhenya said she stepped out and saw the used condoms also disposed of on her mother’s doorstep.

Ludenyo is said to have come out of Sheila’s house and demanded to know who was asking about the dumped used condoms.

Upon learning that it was Naomi who had posed the question, Ludenyo is said to have attacked Naomi, before Nakhenya tried to stop the suspect from inflicting injuries on Naomi.

The court heard that it was at that point that Ludenyo shifted his aggression to Nakhenya, telling her: “Ni wewe ndiye nilikuwa natafuta (Actually, it was you that I was targeting).

Ludenyo is said to have punched Nakhenya in the face before poking her eyes.

In her statement, Nakhenya said Ludenyo slapped her mother when she (Nakhenya) attempted to break up the fight.

In her report, Nakhenya said Ludenyo whipped out a knife and was charging towards her and her mother, when they screamed for help.

Other neighbours are said to have rushed to the scene and disarmed Ludenyo.

Later that day, Nakhenya obtained a P3 Form and reported the alleged assault at Loresho police post.

Ludenyo pleaded guilty to the offence before Nairobi Magistrate Elector Akoth Riany, and requested the court to be lenient on him.

The magistrate said she will sentence Ludenyo on Thursday, February 13, after receiving facts of the case.
