Heads of state pay their final respects to Moi at Nyayo Stadium

President Uhuru Kenyatta and a host of dignitaries from around the world joined Kenyans at Nyayo Stadium on Tuesday to pay their last respects to the late president Daniel Toroitich arap Moi.

Moi ruled Kenya for 24 years and before succeeding the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in 1978, he had served as the vice president for 11 years.

Dignitaries who graced his final send-off at Nyayo Stadium include current and former heads of state.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame, South Sudan’s Salva Kiir and Ethiopia’s Sahle-Work Zewde are among the heads of state who were led to the platform where Moi’s casket was placed.

Others are Djibouti’s President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh and Tanzania’s former presidents Jakaya Kikwete and Benjamin Mkapa

Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Namibia’s Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Dr. Edward Mahama- special envoy Ghana, Zimbabwe Minister for defense Kembo Mohadi and foreign affairs ministers for Burundi, Zambia and DRC, Amb. Ezechiel Nibigira, Joseph Malanji, Marie Tumba Nzeza, respectively are also present.

Foreign dignitaries in attendance include: The Duke of Gloucester Richard Alexander Walter, Ambassador Patrick Hennessy State secretary, and special envoy Ireland, among others.
