President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday took it upon himself to inspect preparations for the memorial service of former president Daniel arap Moi.
The Head of State drove himself to Nyayo National Stadium in a G Wagon Mercedez Benz with minimal security.
During his drive, President Kenyatta was accompanied by the Chief of the Defence Forces Gen. Samson Mwathethe.
After lying-in-state for three days, the gun carriage and state funeral procession will on Tuesday leave Parliament buildings to Nyayo Stadium where the National Memorial Service shall be held.
The chairman of the Steering Committee Joseph Kinyua said the memorial service will be an inter-denominational Service led by the African Inland Church.
The service is expected to be attended by at least 10 Heads of State and Government and other foreign dignitaries.
There will be disruption of traffic on several roads.
The Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai yesterday said that Aerodrome Road will be closed tomorrow from 6 am. Uhuru Highway will also be closed at Likoni, Bunyala Valley road and University Way roundabout.
Mutyambai said traffic will also be disrupted along Nairobi-Malaba highway between Nairobi and Eldoret tomorrow and on Tuesday.
The Nairobi-Eldoret highway will be closed to all heavy commercial trucks and trailers from tomorrow from 12 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday.
“There will be enhanced police deployment to ensure public safety and security, and for traffic control and enforcement along the routes,” the police boss said.
The former Head of State will be accorded full military ceremonial honours, which include, Conveyance of the body of the former Head of State under escort in a Gun Carriage, accompanied by Military Musical Honours.
There will be a 19 Gun-salute. The well-known 21-gun salute is reserved for the highest offices like the sitting President. The number of shots fired, usually odd numbers, decreases from there depending on the rank of the deceased.
