Detectives in Kwale County are investigating an incident where an 87-year-old granny was killed and her only goat stolen.

In a statement on Monday, July 8, 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that the elderly woman was found lying dead on her bed on Sunday, July 7, 2024, with multiple cuts suspected to have been inflicted by a machete.

“Lungalunga detectives in Kwale county have launched a manhunt for cold-blooded robber(s) who yesterday invaded the home of an 87-year-old woman at Mwololo village, and just for her goat, murdered her,” DCI stated.

“In the abominable incident reported by the village chairperson, the elderly woman was found lying dead on her bed with multiple cuts suspected to have been inflicted by a machete, and her only goat stolen by yet-to-be-identified violent robbers.”

The crime-busters have appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

“DCI detectives based at Lungalunga have since taken over the matter, and are jointly with Mwereni location authorities combing the area for leads to her killers. Should you have any information that could assist in the investigation, please #FichuakwaDCI by calling 0800 722 203,” the statement added.

Another murder suspect arrested

Last week, the police arrested another murder suspect travelling from Mombasa to Nairobi.

The murder suspect is accused of orchestrating the death of a woman in Kitui County.

The suspect, Vilonicah Mueni, was arrested while travelling from Mombasa to Nairobi aboard a lorry in Mtito Andei, where she tried to evade the police.

Mueni is suspected of being behind the murder of Lucy Kambu Mwenda in Kalimani village, Kathunguni sub-location in Kitui County on May 22, 2024.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Lucy was stabbed twice in the back of her head, leaving her dead.

“Detectives based at DCI Katulani in Kitui County have successfully apprehended a suspect believed to be the architect behind the ghastly murder of Lucy Kambu Mwenda in Kalimani village, Kathunguni sub-location on May 22, 2024,” DCI stated.

“On that ill-fated night, with only the moon as a silent witness, the deceased was tragically discovered lying lifeless in a pool of blood just outside her property’s perimeter fence. The malefactors had callously stabbed her twice at the back of her head, leaving her for dead, blood seeping from her mouth.”

Among the evidence recovered from the crime scene include a blood-stained machete, a light blue jug, a paper bag containing a broken egg, and a note written in the Kamba language placed atop an empty cup.
