A Mt Kenya governor now regrets his decision to back Deputy President William Ruto despite calls by President Uhuru Kenyatta to shelve early political campaigns.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga made the U-turn after he found himself sidelined when he missed on the list of county bosses who visited State House, Mombasa last week.

Kahiga said he rues his initial decision and wants to get back into the good books of the Presidency as the Head of State regains control of the rebellious Mt Kenya region.

Those who met Uhuru were Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga),Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) and Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia).

Kahiga, who spoke during an interview on a local radio station, said that the repeated visits by DP Ruto in Nyeri County had left him convinced that he held brief for President Kenyatta only to realise later that this was not true.

“DP Ruto has been in Nyeri for many times and I have been attending his functions as the county governor. I have however come to realise that things are totally different from what I initially thought,” he said.
