Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has urged Gen Zs to join President William Ruto’s anticipated X spaces.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, July 5, 2024, told the Kenyan youths to stop their plans of hosting a parallel X spaces.

Analyse engagement

Instead, Mutua suggests that the Gen Zs should just engage the President on his X spaces, and host their parallel one later to analyse their engagement with Ruto.

“They say “There are three sides to a story: yours, mine and the truth.” Let’s get the President’s side of the story on X Spaces. It is a good thing that he is available to engage. Gen Zs can engage him here then do their exclusive ones later to analyse the engagement and outcomes,” Mutua said.

President Ruto will this Friday afternoon host an X Spaces with an aim of engaging the youth an various issues affecting the country.

However, a section of the X influencers who have been pushing anti-government hashtags have threatened to host a parallel X Spaces, arguing that Ruto should have let them host him instead of him hosting the Spaces.

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has also urged the Gen Zs to stop their planned parallel X Spaces and give the president an ear.

Ruto’s X Spaces

According to a statement issued by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Thursday, July 4, 2024, President Ruto will be engaging the youth on Friday, July 5, 2024, from 2 pm to 5 pm.

“Engage President William Ruto tomorrow,” the State House spokesperson said.

During the online meeting, the youths are expected to raise different questions to the president, which he will respond to.

The meeting comes barely days after President Ruto promised to engage the youth in the X Spaces following the June 25, 2025, deadly protests that saw Gen Z demonstrators storm parliament.

The incident saw Ruto succumb to the pressure from the protesters and decline to sign the controversial Finance Bill, 2024.

Cabinet to join X Spaces

The Cabinet is scheduled to join the Head of State as he hosts the X Spaces.

President Ruto is expected to address the issues raised by the youths during the anti-Finance Bill, 2024 protests, and subsequent anti-government protests.

“All Kenyans are welcome to contribute to this dialogue as part of our collective effort to foster national renewal and create a better Kenya for all,” a despatch from the Cabinet Office, Executive Office of the President said.

All Spaces are public-like posts, which means they can be accessed by anyone.

The Gen Zs have recently voiced their dissatisfaction with the Finance Bill and the current regime demanding accountability.
