Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has promised to sponsor the education of a school-going girl who was filmed selling boiled maize at night.
A video of a young girl donning a school uniform while selling maize by the roadside at the Jomoko area along Thika Superhighway went viral on social media platforms on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
Upon coming across the video, Babu Owino on Friday, July 5, 2024, asked for help in tracing the girl so that he could sponsor her education and help her parents start a business.
Babu Owino’s school life
The vocal youthful MP said the incident reminded him of when he used to sell chang’aa every day after school for the whole of his primary and secondary school life.
The girl in the viral video is said to be leaving Kisiwa Primary School in Thika every evening to go and sell the maize by the roadside.
“This Girl leaves Kisiwa Primary school in Thika every evening to go sell boiled maize by the roadside which reminds me of when I used to sell chang’aa every day after school in my whole Primary and Secondary School life,” Babu Owino said.
Schooling challenges
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker stated that such challenges in life are just temporary.
Babu Owino went ahead to give an example of how God turned the Red Sea into a dry land so that the Israelites could pass.
“These challenges are temporary for we serve a living God who is a God of turn around. If He turned the Red Sea into dry land for Israelites to pass, He will turn around your challenges into solutions.
“If He turned around barren wombs into Babies, He will turn around your sorrows into joy. If He turned around skins full of leprosy into smooth skins, He will turn around your addiction into freedom, He will turn around Your sickness into good Health, Your mess to a message, your test to testimony, Your lack to abundance,” Babu Owino stated in a statement via his official social media platforms.
He pleaded with Kenyans who might have the contact details of the young girl’s parents so that he could reach out and help.
“Someone to get me this Girl’s contact please I want to sponsor her education and give her Parents money to start a business,” Babu Owino pointed out.
This is not the first time Babu Owino has been touched by such situations.
The MP has been at the forefront of fighting for education rights, with him keeping the government on its toes over delayed National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), HELB funds.
