Residents of Kisii County are up in arms after a woman’s hand was severed off by her brother in-law in one of the most brutal gender-based violence in the area.

Eunice Moraa, from Kenyenya was allegedly assaulted on Sunday night within a Napier grass farm following a squabble over land boundary.

The mother of two was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was admitted.

Kisii County Woman Representative Janet Ong’era visited the Moraa at the hospital and decried increasing cases of gender-based violence in the county where several women and girls have been raped and some even killed.

She condemned the incidents, saying they have left some of the victims with serious injuries.

Ong’era also urged area security agents to investigate the matter and arrest the culprit within one week or risk massive protests.

On her part, nominated MCA Caren Magara lamented over many cases of violation of women and girl child rights.
