Human Rights activist Boniface Mwangi has called for an end to ongoing protests, citing the infiltration of goons.

Mwangi holds that goods are operating under state protection to loot and vandalize property.

Boniface Mwangi’s disappointment

Mwangi expressed disappointment with the government’s handling of the situation, accusing authorities of allowing violence against peaceful demonstrators while shielding troublemakers.

“Good people, let’s go home. As usual, the government has let goons take over, loot, and burn property again. Those goons are getting state protection while peaceful protesters are being beaten, arrested, and even killed.

“It’s a shame it has come to this. When the state behaves like thugs, we keep off,” Mwangi stated in a released statement.

Mwangi’s plea coincides with reports from Journalists for Justice detailing instances of excessive force by police in Nairobi’s CBD.

According to their account, passersby have been arbitrarily arrested and forced into unmarked police vehicles. Additionally, one journalist was reportedly shot in the leg amid the unrest.

In separate incident in Mombasa, a local businessman opened fire on demonstrators in the Ganjoni area.

Mombasa shooting

The Director of Investigations confirmed that the shooter, believed to be the owner of Qaffee Point Hotel, injured two individuals before being apprehended, disarmed, and placed under custody.

Those injured in the incident are currently receiving medical treatment, with prompt assistance provided by members of the public to transport them to the hospital.

The unrest has raised significant concerns about public safety and the rule of law, with calls for accountability and restraint amidst escalating tensions.
