Even with governments directive to school heads to admit all students with or without school fees prevail, a poor boy was turned away from admission at Machakos School.

Solomon Muuo, who had traveled with his father hundreds of Kilometres from Kitui South through the help of a Good Samaritan full of hope of joining his dream school, could not withstand the shock.

The school refused to admit him over lack of school fees, uniform and other personal effects.

Incidentally, It was at Machakos School where Education Cabinet Secretary Prof, George Magoha, issued an order last week barring principals from turning away needy students.

Prof Magoha issued the order in the presence of the school principal, Kahi Indimuli, who is also the chairman of Kenya School Heads Association.

Muuo schooled at Kiaoni Primary School in Ikutha, Kitui South sub-county and was selected to join Machakos School having recorded 400 marks.

He told K24 Digital that getting a proper education has been a nightmare since his father, a boda boda operator, is unable to raise his fees and other necessities.

As a result, he applied for scholarships but was unlucky. His father, David Isika Musya, has appealed to well-wishers to come to his aid.

The poor but needy boy walked out of the school gate with his father, carrying his nearly empty metallic box, plastic basin and worn-out bag.

Muuo said he dreams of becoming a civil engineer but all seems dark and stark.
