Protesters march in CBD to honour demo victims

A section of Kenyans in Nairobi on Sunday, June 30, 2024, staged a march in honour of the youths killed during the anti-Finance Bill 2024, and anti-government protests.

In a TikTok live session seen by K24 Digital, the Kenyans holding placards and the national flag, chanted ‘Rest in Power’ in memory of the Kenyans who lost their lives lost during the protests.

The thousands of individuals marched from the CBD as they headed to UpperHill chanting anti-government slogans and chants aimed at police using force to disperse crowds.

“Stop killing us, we are peaceful,” they chanted.

The groups comprised older Kenyans and young individuals including children.

More than 29 people lost their lives while over 300 others were left injured during the deadly protests that occured last week.

Various human rights agencies have forth to condemn the government and police over excessive use of force asking them to exercise restraint.

Recently, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Tür came forth to condemn the government appealing to the Kenya Kwanza administration to allow dialogue.

“Saddened by recent deaths and injuries in the context of protests, UN Human Rights Chief @volker_turk urges restraint to facilitate the rights to peaceful assembly & expression, and dialogue to listen to the voices of young people. Investigations & accountability essential,” he stated.
