Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua cautions the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protesters against violence amid demonstrations.

In a statement, on Thursday, June 27, 2024, Mutua urged protesters to abide by the rule of law when exercising their democratic rights adding that when acting within the law, beyond tribe and beyond being bought the voices of demonstrators become more powerful.

Mutua further stated that the power of the young generation lies in legitimate agitation, peaceful protest and respect for the Constitution.

“To Gen Z, your power lies in legitimate agitation, nonviolent protestations and respect for the rule of law. Do not throw away your legitimacy and credibility by being unruly or acting against the very constitution that you are riding on, “Mutua said.

“You are powerful when you act in line with the law when you are beyond tribe and beyond being bought. You are powerful when you prick our conscience with your sheer courage, boldness and intelligence.”

MSCK CEO stated that acting unruly, causing mayhem and violence during demonstrations will only rob their powers since it’s a sign of weakness.

“Bullying others, causing mayhem and violence is not a strength. It robs you of your power,” Mutua said.

Anti-Finance Bill 2024 Protests

Demonstrators from major towns across the country have vowed to continue with today’s anti-government demos despite President William Ruto declining to sign the controversial bill into law on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

In Nairobi, the presence of heavily armed Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers has been witnessed to maintain vigilance from atop an armoured carriage as demonstrators continue with planned anti-government demonstrations.

On Tuesday, June 26, 2024, protests in Nairobi turned bloody after a section of demonstrators infiltrated the National Parliament while some looted businesses in the CBD.
