The Russian Embassy has cautioned its citizens in Kenya due to anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.

In a Tuesday, June 25, 2024 notice, the Embassy described the protests as an internal political situation.

The Russian Embassy in Kenya thus directed its citizens to avoid crowded places to avoid being caught in the protests which have since become a battle between law enforcement officers and youthful demonstrators.

They have been asked to avoid Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret, Nakuru, Nanyuki, Nyeri, Kisii, Kilifi, Embu and Kericho.

“Attention Russian citizens in Kenya! Due to the aggravation of the internal political situation, we urge you to avoid visiting crowded places in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret, Nakuru, Nanyuki, Nyeri, Kisii, Kilifi, Embu and Kericho in the coming days,” the notice read in part.

Protests escalate

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, thousands thronged different parts of the country demanding that the Kenya Kwanza regime rejects the Finance Bill 2024.

Several protesters described the bill as suppressive asking President William Ruto to reconsider his hard stance on lobbying the MPs to pass it.

Despite the growing tension and protests, the MPs have passed the Bill with amendments.

Other embassies send warning

The US embassy in Nairobi issued a security alert to its citizens over the Finance Bill Protest. In a statement, the US embassy asked its citizens in Nairobi to exercise caution as they go about their businesses.

“There is a planned protest about the Finance Bill of 2024 in the area of the Parliament of Kenya in the Central Business District beginning at 12:00 pm,” the statement read.

“Organizers have stated that the events are intended to be peaceful. However, large public gatherings can turn violent at any moment. It is recommended to remain vigilant and aware of circumstances and avoid large gatherings.”

The embassy further warned of traffic disruptions on roads across the city.

The UK Embassy also sent a warning to its citizens over the protests.
