Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna in a surprising turn of events has found himself on the brink of being denied access to his office by a police unit stationed at the Supreme Court gates.

Sharing on his X account on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, Sifuna said the unit, unaware of his identity, accidentally blocked him from reaching his office at the KICC.

The senator expressed his frustration at the situation, highlighting the lack of awareness within the police unit regarding his identity and rightful access to his office.

“The police officers deployed in Nairobi today are clearly not from here. Ruto has brought his village mates and put them in command of the formations around parliament. I know this because the one in charge of the unit outside the Supreme Court tried to block me from accessing my office at KICC just now. Such cowards,” Sifuna stated.

The timing of the senator’s incident coincides with a day marked by widespread protests in the Central Business District (CBD),  as a security measure carried out by the police, a barricade was stationed at the Supreme Court.

Mega occupy parliament protests

With a series of demonstrations planned for the entire week, Kenya’s Generation Z planned to express their opposition to the Finance Bill 2024 on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Throughout the previous protests, the youth maintained an active online presence through various hashtags including, #OccupyParliament, #OccupyStateHouse, and #JusticeForRex. The latest hashtag, #TotalShutdown, underscores their commitment to ongoing protests.

Several posters on social media were shared revealing plans for a seven-day protest in support of their slain colleague, Rex, and to protest the Finance Bill, which passed its second reading recently.

As part of the demonstrations, dubbed ‘7 Days of Rage,’ Members of Parliament who supported the bill against their constituents’ wishes were warned. The demonstrators also requested police brutality against protesters to be investigated.
