Activist Boniface Mwangi has found himself at the forefront of a troubling situation as a new wave of abductions has shaken the online community.

Sharing on his X account on the morning of June 25, 2024, Mwangi highlighted a new list of content creators who were abducted in the wee hours ahead of the mega protest.

Adding a sense of urgency to the situation, Mwangi took a bold step by reaching out to the Law Society of Kenya for legal assistance in what he believes are state abductions.

Among those abducted, include Franje, digital creator Osama Otero, Drey Mwangi, and Gabriel Oguda, have sparked concern and outrage among supporters.

Further, Mwangi blamed the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki for having a hand in the abductions and requested legal help to have him sued.

“Good morning, we are waking up to the news of many abductions of citizens the government suspects of being involved in #RejectFinanceBill2024. @LawSocietyofKe you need to sue @KindikiKithure in his personal capacity for the state abductions! Noordin, Koome, & Amin, release them,” Boniface remarked.

In response to these disturbing events, Mwangi has specifically requested the abducted Kenyans to be released and sought support from notable government officials such as National Intelligence Service (NIS) Noordin Haji, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Amin Mohamed.

Mwangi highlighted the need for justice for the abducted individuals and accountability by government officials in the face of such blatant violations of human rights.

Abductions of youth activists and supporters

The disappearance of several young activists has been reported in recent weeks after unknown individuals showed up at their homes and on the streets and transported them to unknown destinations.

Further, the abductions have been following a pattern which has shocked the nation as they seem to be happening randomly and unpredictably.

Many of the individuals reported missing appear to be among the list of those who have been abducted or arrested because of the protests regarding the Finance Bill 2024.

A few of the notable figures are Activist Shadrack Kiprono alias ‘Shad Khalif’ and Attorney General Justin Muturi’s son, Leslie Muturi.

Shadrack was abducted on June 23, 2024, and a disturbing video from a CCTV camera surfaced on social media of Shad being abducted by three men being forcefully shoved into a white vehicle and speeding off.

Leslie Muturi was reportedly abducted on Saturday night near Nairobi’s Lavington area. In a video shared by Embakasi Member of Parliament (MP) Mark Mwenje revealed that Leslie’s car had been abandoned along the roadside.

Leslie was ambushed after leaving a club on Dennis Pritt Road and was bundled into a vehicle and taken away.

Kenyans online speculated that the kidnapping was related to the Finance Bill 2024 being rejected. Leslie Muturi was later released from the kidnapping.
