Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has sent a stern warning to protesters vandalizing public infrastructure during demonstrations.

In a press conference on Monday, June 24, 2025, Kindiki said he was concerned with the vandalism which occurred during the demos.

“There have been grave breaches to peace and damaging of road infrastructure built from the sweat of hardworking tax-payers by a section of demonstrators, I dare you to try that,” Kindiki warned.

The Interior CS warned that law enforcement officers would be firm and unapologetic to any breach of peace and vandalism during the Finance Bill 2024 demos slated for Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

“While police officers are neutral and apolitical, no form of lawlessness is going to be entertained whatsoever,” Kindiki added.

During the Monday evening address, Kindiki advised protestors planning to participate in the Finance Bill 2024 demos to observe the routes to be followed during the protests.

Also, Kindiki said the protests should come to an end at sunset or 6:30 pm, whichever comes first. He added that the security agencies involved in providing security during the day would not guarantee the security of protestors at night.

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, protests boiled over into the night even after a majority of demonstrators had left Nairobi’s Central Business District.

Already, the Ministry of Education revised its earlier timetable to allow schools to release students to go home for the mid-term breaks fearing they could find themselves in the crosshairs during the scheduled protests on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Finance Bill 2024 demos

The Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations have intensified over the weeks, with a section of politicians getting de-platformed during their engagements with the public over the weekend.

President William Ruto on Sunday, June 23, 2024, evaded a section of irate youth who camped outside a church venue in Nyahururu. The youth had organised demonstrations to seek the audience of the President concerning the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Meanwhile, social media influencers, activists, lawyers and a section of medical practitioners have vowed the demonstrations will go on as planned despite a recent wave of abductions that seem to target individuals involved in the protests.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino called on the protestors to avail themselves on Tuesday, promising to give them access to Parliament, against CS Kindiki’s warning on restricted access to critical public infrastructure and protected areas.

“Kenyans present yourselves in parliament tomorrow, you are welcome, I will personally open the gates for you to come and have tea,” Owino said on Monday, June 24, 2024.
