Content creator Andrew Kibe has thrown his weight behind Gen Z in their fight against the 2024 Finance Bill.
The youth have voiced their concerns against the tax-collection proposed law, which sailed to the Third Reading when the majority of the Members of Parliament voted in its favour.
Kibe explained why he initially did not join the youth in their anti-government protests and said he has changed tune and that he is going to be part of the future demonstration.
“It has been a crucial point in our country right now, and I want to thank Gen Z because they have opened my eyes. I was lost, but now I am found.
“I will tell you why. At the beginning of this thing, I was very sceptical. I am afraid of being taken out, and I am afraid of everything. I did not see this movement, and that was a big mistake on my part.
“But I want to assure you, Gen Z, and everybody else who is in this movement, that I am 100% here now. Hata kame hamnitaki, mimi niko ndani. You are better with me. Trust me, we are better together,” Kibe said in a post on his X handle on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
The Youtuber said he is disappointed by his generation, who were afraid to face the government as the current generation is doing.
“If you look at my generation, hakuna kitu tulifanya, tulinyamaza na ulikuwa unajaribu kubonga unaokotwa,” he added.
The social media commentator recounted his previous encounter with law-enforcing officers and said that informed part of his silence against the state.
“In 2020, I remember tulishikwa juu ya COVID-19, and we were taken to court in Kasarani. Tukiwa Kasarani, nikashikwa na DCI juu nilisema ‘f*ck the police’. I was very angry at the time; you remember that video.
“That was a crazy moment for me because nilkuwa pekee yangu an mimi ni msee wa kufight the power. I was very annoyed, but they broke me. I remember it was Robert Alai who called me to a restaurant called na akaniambia, ‘jifunze kunyamaza’.
“I told him, if I keep quiet, who is going to fight?” he continued.
Kibe’s promise
More demonstrations have been lined up for Tuesday, and Kibe says he is going to be fully engaged.
“That is why I commend Gen Z because you have taken the bull by its horns. Akina (William) Ruto na kina (Kipchumba) Murkomen were fighting the system, but now they have become the system.
“I am not part of that system; I am with Gen Z. I am with you 100%. I am going to be on the frontlines, kama mbaya mbaya,” he concluded.
