Mental health assessment has been ordered on Jacktone Odhiambo, the prime suspect in the murder of LQBTQ activist Edwin Kiprotich Kiptoo popularly known as Chiloba.
While appearing before the High Court on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, state counsel David Fedha stated that the accused needs to have the assessment done before he takes a plea.
The assessment will be done at the Moi Referral Hospital before he is taken back to court on February 8, 2023, to face charges.

Earlier a lower court in Eldoret had freed the four suspects linked to the death of Chiloba. Among them was Odhiambo who was released alongside the three others. Out of the four, bodybuilder Dennis Litali was completely freed with the others were ordered to report to the police every month for three months.
Prior to that, the court had allowed police to detain the suspects for a period of 21 days.
Chiloba was found murdered and his body was stashed in a metallic box along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road in Kapseret on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
Investigators are yet to recover Chiloba’s phone, whose data could aid in the arrest of more suspects. The deceased had his eyes gouged out, with preliminary investigations indicating that he died of strangulation.
He was laid to rest at Sergoit, Moiben on January 14, 2023.
