Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Hajji has made an application, to have a murder case levelled against Aisha Jumwa settled outside court.

Hajji through Senior Assistant prosecutor, Vivian Kambuga said that the second accused person Jumwa had the desire to have the matter settled outside court considering that she was not the principal suspect in the matter.

“There are ongoing negotiations with the victim’s family, to have the matter settled outside court in relation to the second suspect,” she said

Kambuga informed Mombasa high court judge, Anne Onginjo that ongoing negotiations with the family of the deceased, Ngumbao Jolahad, revealed that the family was now seeking to be compensated for the death of their kin.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Kambuga informed the court, that the Mombasa regional DPP office was unable to make the final decision and the file would be forwarded to the Nairobi office for Hajji to make his final decision next week.

On his part, Jumwa through his lawyer told the court that the move had been, initiated through official communication to the office of the DPP Mombasa where he informed Justice Onginjo that immediate family members of Ngumbao had also expressed interest in the new move to have the charge sheet reviewed and Jumwas name struck out.

Jumwa had been charged alongside, her aide Geoffrey Okuto with the murder of a man in the chaos that erupted during the Ganda Ward by-election.

Jumwa is accused of killing 48-year-old Ngumbao Jola on October 15, 2021, when chaos broke out during the by-election.

Several other people, including police officers, were injured in the chaos.

The matter will be mentioned on, October 26.
