President Yoweri Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kainerugaba has apologised to President William Ruto following the Twitter meltdown that caused a diplomatic tiff between Kenya and Uganda.

Muhoozi in a Tweet on October 13, 2022, apologised to Ruto saying that he has never had a problem with the Kenyan president.

“I have never had any problem with Afande Ruto. If I made a mistake anywhere, I ask him to forgive me as his young brother. Godbless East Africa!” Museveni’s son tweeted.

Muhoozi’s apology to Ruto comes just days after the Kenyan president visited Uganda on October 8 to attend the country’s 60th Independence day celebrations.

Ruto was received by his host President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the Entebbe International Airport upon his arrival.

Explosive tweets

Museveni’s son on October 4, 2022, went on a Twitter meltdown, warning that could capture Kenya’s capital in just two weeks.

Lt.Gen Muhoozi, who serves as the commander of the land forces of the Uganda People Defence Forces (UPDF), posted a series of controversial tweets about Kenya.

He started by blaming retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, whom he refers to as his “big brother”, for not contesting for a third term in the August 9, 2022 polls, adding the retired president could have easily won the election.

“My only problem with my big brother is that he did not stand for a third term. We would have won easily,” he tweeted.

Muhoozi further claimed that he needs just two weeks to topple President William Ruto’s government.

“It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi,” he tweeted.

“I’m happy that members of our district in Kenya, have responded enthusiastically to my tweet. It’s still 2 weeks to Nairobi! After our army captures Nairobi, where should I live? Westlands? Riverside?” He added.

President Museveni apologized to Kenyans and the Kenyan government following the flurry of inflammatory tweets by his son.
