Police in Nandi County have launched a search for an officer who went missing while on duty at the Kapsabet Law Courts on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
According to the police, Constable Patrick Kariuki Muthama, who is based at Kabiyet police station reportedly left for an unknown destination armed with a loaded gun.
“Police Constable Patrick Kariuki left for an unknown destination armed with a loaded firearm C2807 rifle serial number C25C258516. The gun was loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition,” a letter by an OCS at Kabiyet Police station stated.
“If traced contact this command for collection or contact the OCS Kabiyet Police station,” the letter added.
Officer loses bag containing valuables
In a separate incident, police have launched a manhunt for a man who allegedly collected a bag belonging to a senior police officer.
In the incident that occurred at a popular city supermarket, the man allegedly picked up the bag after a luggage tag mix-up by the shelve attendant.
It is reported that the attendant issued a similar tag on the luggage causing confusion that saw the man in question leaving with the officer’s bag.
The bag is said to have contained a walkie-talkie, a Bible and other valuables. Police say the gadget which has since been switched off can only be traced when it will be switched on.
“Chief Inspector Oteyo Isiah, the OCS Kileleshwa went to Naivas Supermarket along Ronald Ngala street to buy water and handed his bag to the shelve attendant before he was given a luggage tag. The bag contained a police walkie-talkie, office keys, a Bible and other valuables,
“While returning the tag, the bag was missing and the attendant claimed to have given the bag to a person with a similar tag number,” the police report read in part.
