A 19-year-old boy has been arrested for threatening to kill his father in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

A police report seen by K24 Digital indicates that Samuel Kinyanjui pointed out an item resembling a firearm at his father while threatening to end the oldman’s life under unclear circumstances.

The frightened man later reported the incident to the police.

However, when police visited the scene the boy’s mother caused a scene as she attempted to block the police from arresting the teenager.

The woman, who was armed with a kitchen knife, is said to have raised an alarm saying thieves had invaded her house forcing the police to arrest her alongside the son.

“Njoroge reported to the police that his son threatened to kill him by pointing an item resembling a firearm. Police visited the scene and the suspect was arrested. During the arrest, the mother intervened while armed with a kitchen knife in an attempt to rescue the son while shouting that thieves had invaded her home,” the police report read in part.

During the scuffle, a female police officer who was amongst those who had come to arrest the suspect was injured on the face and chest.

A police search in the room led to the recovery of a fake wooden firearm that was hidden in the ceiling and a blood-stained sword placed under the young man’s mattress.

54 rolls of suspected Cannabis Sativa (bhang) were also found in the room.

The boy and his mother were placed in custody at Gilgil Police Station pending arraignment in court.

In a separate incident in Gigiri, Nairobi, a 21-year-old committed suicide using his father’s pistol in unclear circumstances.

Hanky Babu Kiriako, the son of a Kiambu County government employee, is said to have locked himself in a house at the servant’s quarter before taking his own life.

Preliminary investigations indicate the deceased shot himself in the head while sitted. The father of the deceased is a licensed private firearm holder.

The police recovered the pistol and one spent cartridge.

“Kiriako locked himself at the servant quarters and shot himself in the head using his father’s pistol of certificate number 004269, a Ceska pistol serial number 203099. One spent cartridge was found on the scene with the firearm on his lap,” police said.

The deceased was an online writer and the reasons for taking his own life are yet to be established.

The body was moved to Chiromo mortuary pending autopsy.
