Kemeloi Boys High School in Aldai, Nandi county has been closed indefinitely following student unrest.

The incident comes barely five days after the parents of the same school protested against the poor management of the institution as they demanded the transfer of the school principal

Nandi county KUPPET executive Secretary Paul Rotich has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education to send an independent body to investigate the cause of rampant strikes which have been witnessed at the same school

“The school will remain closed until a date that will be announced later to allow us to get proper solution with other stakeholders so that we can have a lasting solution to the strikes and students unrest that have been witnessed here every now and then,” Rotich said while speaking to the press.

Rotich further said the students and parents of Kemeloi Boys seem to be having issues with the school administration, stating that KUPPET will investigate so that the classes can resume in due course.

“Some of the grievances raised by the students when the school was being closed last term had been addressed and other arising matters will be addressed too but for now the students have been allowed to proceed home and already parents have been communicated by the school administration to organise for transport back home,” Rotich added.

In the previous incident, the students damaged property in various classrooms and parents were charged ksh1,000 each for the repairs. Some parents were not comfortable with the amount charged.

Parents called on the relevant authorities and stakeholders to investigate why cases of student unrest have increased in the said school

“I have just arrived here at the school with my son for classes only to get news that the school has been closed. We want a lasting solution as parents to end this drama of unrest in our school,” Pengeria Korir, a parent, said.
