Baringo County Deputy Governor Charles Kipng’ok died at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) en route to Mombasa for the induction workshop for governors that had been organised by Council of Governors (COG).

The newly elected deputy governor was confirmed dead by medical personnel at JKIA while the aircraft was still on the ground.

“Kenya Airways PLC(“KQ”), regrets to announce that a passenger developed breathing difficulties this evening while boarding KQ612 that was scheduled to depart for Mombasa at 1900hours,” read part of the statement by Kenya Airways.

Preliminary reports indicate that Kipng’ok developed breathing difficulties at JKIA before the KQ aircraft took off.

The JKIA Health and Security agencies are however still handling the issue.

John Kipsang his personal driver while confirming the incident said that Baringo county governor Benjamin Cheboi who was together with the deceased at JKIA called him to inform him of the fateful incident.

“We are still in disbelief, I received a call from the county governor who was set to travel together for the induction that while he was boarding by the airstair, he got fatigue and experienced breathing difficulties and collapsed leading to his demise before the plane took off,” Kipsang said.

He however regretted his death saying that it was too soon for him to depart.
