Voting in one of the two voting centres at Mubukuro Primary School in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi county was suspended for 10 hours after Senatorial candidate ballot papers went missing.

Voters scheduled to vote in centre two started the exercise at 6 AM with their counterparts in centre one having to paralyze voting indefinitely to allow IEBC to respond to the Tuesday morning incident.

By 4:00 PM, voting in the second centre had already been concluded, as IEBC battled with little time left to the end of the voting exercise to deploy papers to the station after they were found at Tharaka Constituency following a mix-up.

County Returning Officer Mohammed Raka who responded and oversaw the deployment of the ballot papers to Mubukuro Primary announced that time would be allocated to make up for the lost time.

The centre closing time has now been extended to Wednesday at 6 AM.

“I would like to inform members of the public who were scheduled to vote in the affected station that additional time will be allocated to allow voting. We managed to locate the lost senatorial ballot papers at Tharaka Constituency and we can confirm that voting will now resume,” he said.
