Popular digital journalist and activist Dennis Itumbi has made a passionate appeal requesting the release of comedian Eric Omondi.

Itumbi’s appeal comes as a plea for Eric to attend the Churchill Show’s tribute in honour of his late brother Fred Omondi, who tragically lost his life in an accident.

In addition, Itumbi pleaded with the police to allow Eric to mourn his brother Fred outside of jail.

“Please, dear Police release Eric to attend @MwalimChurchill Show tribute to his brother Fred. Let him script on, I actually laughed at myself, I had believed the story that someone stole a horse from the police. Let Eric Omondi mourn while free from the cells. Tafadhali,” Itumbi added.

On the morning of June 21, 2024, Kenyan comedian and activist Eric Omondi was arrested during a protest outside parliament.

In videos circulating on social media, Eric could be seen riding a horse before he was reportedly arrested as he expressed his grievances.

The sudden turn of events has left Eric’s loved ones, including his wife, deeply concerned about his well-being.

The situation took a distressing turn when Eric was apprehended and taken into custody. In the wake of his arrest, his family was concerned as his phone was disconnected immediately after he was arrested.

Eric’s disappearance

During an interview with local media outlets hours after his arrest, Lynne Njihia outlined the events leading up to Eric’s disappearance.

According to Lynne, Eric was arrested and taken to Central Police Station, but subsequent inquiries have not led to any information about his location.

“Eric was arrested this morning around 11 a.m., and his phone was switched off immediately. We were told he was taken to Central Police Station, but when we got there, the police said he wasn’t there, even though we saw him entering Central,” Lynne recounted.

During the night of June 20, Eric Omondi had flown back to Nairobi in preparation for his brother Fred’s memorial concert.

Earlier this week, Fred Omondi, Eric’s younger brother, tragically died in a bodaboda accident. Eric’s family was already grieving Fred’s untimely death, and Eric’s arrest only intensified their grief.
