Former Chief Justice  Willy Mutunga in a compelling call to action, has reached out to Kenyan lawyers, requesting them to provide much-needed legal support to activist Boniface Mwangi.

Sharing through his X account on June 21, 2024, Mutunga said that Boniface had been threatened and was being traced by police officers.

As a result of the recent life update on Boniface, Mutunga urged solidarity and assistance within the legal community to ensure that Mwangi receives the representation he needs.

“Boniface Mwangi is being sought by police officers for interrogation. And true to their past practices they are doing this on a Friday. I am asking all lawyers who have been at the service of the struggles to be ready to give Mwangi the legal representation he will require,” Willy said.

Additionally, activist Boniface Mwangi shared that he fears for his life following the release of a 7-day schedule of protests against the Finance Bill 2024.

Mwangi announced on Friday, June 21, 2024, that he had survived a kidnapping attempt. He said people he suspected to be detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) tried to kidnap him but missed.

Further, Boniface told his followers that he would be switching off his phone and keeping off social media for some time.

This comes barely hours after Boniface Mwangi notified his followers of the demonstrations scheduled for the next seven days.

On Friday, June 21, 2024, Boniface and anti-tax protest organisers outline a series of events that will culminate in Occupy Parliament demos round two on Tuesday next week.
