IPOA asks Kenyans to submit complaints on police conduct during Finance Bill 2024 protests

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has asked Kenyans to submit complaints on the conduct of police officers during the Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations that are happening across the country.

IPOA in a statement on Thursday, June 20, 2024, said they had started engaging Kenyans over the ongoing protests.

“This afternoon on #SemaNaIPOA, we are engaging you to receive your complaints touching on police conduct during the ongoing demonstrations,” the authority said.

The police watchdog went ahead to share their reachable contacts for the offices in the areas where the Anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests are ongoing.

IPOA contacts

They have shared their contacts for their main Nairobi office, the Eldoret office, Garissa, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nyeri, Nakuru, Kakamega and Meru.

Those in Nairobi have been asked to reach IPOA through 0792532627, 0773999000, 0204906000, or the toll-free number 1559.

Those in Eldoret are supposed to dial 0204403548. Kenyans in Garissa have been encouraged to contact IPOA through 0791559346.

Those with complaints from Mombasa are supposed to reach IPOA through 0799019998, with those in Kisumu urged to call 0799862244.

Kakamega residents are supposed to call 0204403549, and those in Nakuru to use 0736435616.

Meru residents have been encouraged to reach out to IPOA  for complaints on 0777490652, and those in Nyeri are supposed to dial 0202004664.

There have been a few cases of injuries that have been reported since the Anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations dubbed Occupy Parliament kicked off on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

There were cases of injuries among the protesters and the police officers that were reported in Nairobi at the onset of the protests.

Police criticized

Police officers have been condemned for using excessive force on peaceful protesters.

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, the Kenya Red Cross said it had treated a total of four protesters who had been injured during the demonstrations.

The Kenya Red Cross, however, promised to continue being on standby across the country, to attend to any cases of injuries that will be reported.

“Following the ongoing demonstrations in the Nairobi CBD, we have provided first aid to four injured people. Our first responders remain on standby in various areas across the country,” the Kenya Red Cross said in a statement.
