Anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, residents from major towns across the country including Mombasa, Kakamega, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Kisii, Embu and Nanyuki joined the ongoing anti-Finance Bill protest which started on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in Nairobi County.

These demonstrators are protesting against the Finance Bill which has proposed additional taxes on already-burdened taxpayers.

The bill is currently being debated in Parliament.

Kalonzo on Finance Bill

Kalonzo who is against the proposed Finance Bill 2024, on June 19, 2024, said that the Bill has betrayed Kenyans who had faith in the current regime adding that the legislatures should reject the Bill.

“Regarding The Finance Bill, 2024, which is a grave betrayal of the Kenyan people we clearly say that no amount of language and paragraph editing will be able to hide the Ksh1 trillion in budgeted corruption,” he said.

“We strongly encourage ALL Members of Parliament to #RejectFinanceBill2024 in its entirety tomorrow, June 20, 2024, as it is unreasonable, unsound, and uncorrectable.”

Kalonzo further urged Kenyans to remain vigilant.

“Finally, and as your government-in-waiting, we urge all Kenyans to continue being vigilant. Let them know that no sideshows including poorly staged and acted party wrangles will divert their attention from holding this disastrous KK regime to account,” he said.
