Former presidential aspirant cum gospel musician Reuben Kigame on Thursday, June 20, 2024, revealed his plans to join the anti-Finance Bill protest which is being held in various towns countrywide.
Through his official social media account, Kigame revealed that despite being abled differently, he will be on the streets to protest against the tax imposed on wheelchairs.
He additionally stated that he would take the country back to where Persons With Disabilities (PWD) were exempted from paying value-added tax (VAT), import duty for the importation of assistive devices such as wheelchairs and walking sticks, plus motor vehicles modified for special needs, and demurrage charges, port charges.
Anti-Finance Bill protest
On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, a section of Nairobians assembled in large numbers in the Central Business District (CBD), dressed in black clothing, with placards while chanting anti-Finance Bill theme songs during the Parliamentary session.
These demonstrators protested against the Finance Bill 2024, which proposed additional taxes on already burdened taxpayers.
The anti-Finance Bill demos are expected to be held in Eldoret and Nairobi for the second time on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
