HELB unveils simplified monthly remittances guide for employers

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has been creating awareness of loan repayment for its beneficiaries ever since it announced an 80 per cent waiver for loan defaulters with accrued penalty.

On  Friday, June 14, 2024, the loans board through its official social media page issued a guide for employers to make monthly remittances for their employees who are HELB beneficiaries.

According to the loans board, employers are to log on to the official HELB’s website and upload the remittance list on the employers’ portal, verify details then print the e-slip after they have confirmed the details are accurate.

“Show your employees you care: log in to the HELB Employers’ portal and sort out those deductions quickly, here’s your guide to making your monthly remittances: Log on to www.helb.co.ke and upload the remittance List. Verify details, click CONFIRM, then print the e-slip, “HELB guide reads.

While further giving a guide on how to make monthly remittances HELB instructed employers to choose their desired mode of payment and then make payments after clicking on the remittance record on the payment menu.

“On the menu, click payments. Choose the remittance record then click ‘Make Payment’. On the pop-up screen, key in the number to receive e-Citizen notification then click ‘Process Payment’ Choose the desired mode then initiate payment, “HELB instructed.

“Quote the invoice number from e-Citizen only when making payments. Once payment is complete, the recordd will automatically update. On the menu, click on statements to view paid remittances then generate the Receipt.”

Loan Waiver

On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, the loans board announced an 80 per cent waiver for beneficiaries with accrued penalties.

In a statement shared on its official social media page, the loans board said penalty waiver for defaulters who will pay their loans in one lump sum.

“Pay your loan arrears in a lump sum and enjoy a waiver of up to 80% on accrued penalties,” HELB said in a statement.
