Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Kayole Police Station have appealed for information from the public on the whereabouts of an attempted murder suspect who has remained at large.

The DCI on Thursday, June 13, 2024, said that 35-year-old Mary Mwende Kimwalu, a suspect in a case of attempted murder committed at Mihang’o Estate in Njiru, Kayole sub-county on April 22, 2023, is still in the hideout.

“Detectives based at DCI Kayole, Nairobi are appealing for information on the whereabouts of 35-year-old Mary Mwende Kimwalu, who is a suspect in a case of Attempted Murder committed at Mihang’o Estate in Njiru, Kayole sub-county on April 22, 2023,” the DCI said.

Stabbed ex-boyfriend

According to the police reports, Mwende stabbed her ex-boyfriend three times in the chest using a kitchen knife following a disagreement.

The suspect is said to have then gone into hiding after committing the incident.

“In the case, Mary Mwende reportedly stabbed her ex-boyfriend three times on the chest using a kitchen knife, after a tiff that sundered their once dazzling love. After the heinous attack, she went underground, carefully effacing the track behind her,” the statement by DCI reads in part.

Cut communication with family

Mwende is said to have also cut communication with her family and known friends and has since avoided places she previously frequented, making it hard for the sleuths to nab her.

“Mwende did not only hole up but also cut communication with her family, known friends and has since avoided places she previously frequented hence paralyzing efforts to bring her to justice,” the DCI stated.

Detectives say their investigations have revealed that Mwende is still within the country.

Warrant of arrest

A warrant of arrest against her was obtained on May 13, 2024, and the detectives say it is still in force.

“Mwende did not only hole up, but also cut communication with her family, known friends and has since avoided places she previously frequented hence paralyzing efforts to bring her to justice. The Immigration Department confirms that she has not exited the country, and a warrant of arrest issued against her on May 13, 2024 is in force,” the DCI says in the statement.

The DCI has shared her photos, which the anti-crime agency says were availed by the suspect’s family which is also desperate for her whereabouts.

The DCI has urged Kenyans with the suspect’s information to report to any police station, DCI office, or call the DCI toll free number 0800 722 203.
