Police seize bhang worth Ksh18M in Migori

Police from Isebania station, Migori County on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, arrested one suspect and seized bhang with an estimated street value of Ksh18 million.

During the arrest, the police also seized a motor vehicle that was used by the suspect to smuggle bhang into the country.

The police who were acting on intelligence from members of the public, apprehended the suspect Joseph Sabora at Nyametaburo area Migori County for trafficking suspected bhang from Tanzania.

“Police in Migori recover 600 kgs of bhang on June 12, 20024, Officers from Isebania Police Station, Migori County, while acting on intelligence, apprehended one Joseph Sabora for trafficking suspected bhang from Tanzania,” police said.

“During the operation at the Nyametaburo area, Police recovered 12 sacks of suspected bhang weighing 600 kgs with an estimated street value of Ksh. 18,000,000, and seized a motor vehicle registration No. KDG 800 P.”

In a separate incident, police in Kuria West sub-County, Migori County arrested one suspect and seized bhang worth Ksh5.2 million.

According to Migori County Police Commander, Francis Nguli, the police acted on intelligence from members of the public and intercepted the two suspected smugglers.

Police also stated that the suspects who were ferrying bhang into the country from neighbouring Tanzania used two Kenyan-registered motorbikes to cross the border.

The police boss said the two riders ran into a homestead where they concealed the bhang upon learning that police were pursuing them.

Police raided the homestead and arrested one suspect, however, the other managed to escape. The county police commander stated that a manhunt has been launched for the suspect.

“Police managed to arrest one suspect as the other managed to escape during the arrest, the suspects had the drugs in five sacks weighing 172 kilograms,” Nguli added.

He further disclosed that the police are on high alert to fight the illegal business in the county and therefore urged the members of the public to support them in the fight.
