The mother of a 40-year-old man who plunged to his death at Adlife Plaza on Monday, January 6, has denied allegations that her son lost Ksh15 million in a bet-gone-wrong in a Nairobi Casino.
Richard Wangai’s mother filed a report at the Kilimani Police Station, where she said her son “had never even seen or handled Ksh1 million”.
The elderly woman, a native of Kirinyaga County, told the law enforcement officers that Wangai looked after her farm in Kwale, and that he was in Nairobi to visit family and friends for the End of Year festivities when he committed suicide.
Wangai arrived at Adlife Plaza at 4:04pm, visited different stores for just over one hour before jumping from the 4th floor of the building at 5:24pm, police said.
On him, were his Identity card and a rosary. Police say Wangai said a prayer before fatally thudding against the concrete floor.
Initial media reports suggested that Wangai had lost Ksh15 million in a failed windfall bid at a city Casino, claims that her mother has now come out to vehemently dismiss.
Kilimani OCPD Lucas Ogara told K24 Digital that Wangai’s mother had arrived at the post early Tuesday to file her statement.
“We are yet to know with precision what resulted in Wangai’s suicidal thoughts,” said Ogara.
The deceased was moved to City Mortuary.
