Kenyan rapper Hubert Mbuku Nakitar popularly known as Nonini on Monday, June 10, 2024, called out the Kenya Copyrights Board (KECOBO) over the proposed Creative Economy Bill 2024.
Through his official social media pages, Nonini accused the board of double standards for backing the proposed bill which is set to benefit creatives.
“Look who is talking when you went ahead and licensed Prisk or is it PAVRISK that has gone against your mandate severally? That hasn’t paid Royalties to performers and actors and you don’t want to see their last Audit of accounts..SAD,” he said.
KECOBO on the creative bill
Nonini backlash comes after KECOBO through its official social media page on Monday, June 10, 2024, expressed its satisfaction with the new proposed bill.
KECOBO says the introduction of the Creative Economy Bill 2024 which will create a major change in the creative sector is set to benefit stakeholders in the creative industry.
“The creative sector is set for major change following the introduction of the Creative Economy Bill 2024,” KECOBO said.

The proposed bill which was sponsored by Migori Senator Eddy Oketch if passed will benefit persons in the creative industry.
In the bill, Oketch said the creative economy leverages human creativity, innovation and ideas as a means of economic development with citizens working in the creative industry contributing to the gross domestic product by creating employment opportunities and paying taxes as a result of the activities they are involved in.
The Bill also seeks to have the National Government and each county government create an enabling environment through direct and indirect support for creative artists and organizations if the Bill is passed by Senators.
It seeks to have the two levels of government formulate and implement policies and strategies for the development and promotion of a sustainable and diverse creative industry.
