Kenyan musician Jovial, known for her unique sense of style and captivating performances, has recently opened up about her preference for keeping her nails short.
As seen on her Instagram story, Jovial shared the reasons behind this choice, shedding light on the practical and personal aspects that influence her nail length.
Having short nails is more than just a fashion statement for Jovial. She revealed she is not a huge fan of press-on nails, even though she makes them occasionally. In Jovial’s opinion, she prefers to wear short and clean nails sometimes and does not understand why people are fascinated with them.
Love for nail extensions
In a world where elaborate nail art and long acrylic extensions often dominate the beauty scene, Jovial said short nails allow her to easily engage in house chores.
Jovial revealed that she prefers short nails after one of her nails got stuck and broke as she alighted a matatu. She ran and waited near a security guard waiting for the pain to subside.
“Kuna wengine wetu kama mimi sipendi kucha ndefu ama zakubandika mda mwingine I love them short and clean. Kuna siku nimewahi jogonga kucha nikiwa karibu kupanda stage nikishuka kwa gari, nilisimamisha security a good 5 minutes nikijifikiria, that pain sio mchezo,” Jovial stated.
In an industry where image is everything, Jovial said she was exhausted by people asking her why she had not done her nails.
“What is this obsession with some of you ya kupenda kuona watu na makucha yakubandika? Y’all need to leave me alone, I have been getting this a lot, ‘Hujatengeneza kucha’. I do make my nails but sometimes I take a break. Nipumzisheni basi, I am a house chores person,” she added.
Overall, Jovial’s decision to maintain short nails is a true testament that she is not obsessed with what everyone else is doing, she asked her fans to let her be.
