In a brewing legal dispute, YouTuber Nicholas Kioko has found himself at odds with musician Steven Kasolo over defamatory remarks that he claims the latter made during an interview.

A demand letter dispatched by Kioko’s legal representatives, S. Ndiga & Co. Advocates, dated June 5, 2024, claims that Kasolo made disparaging comments about their client during a YouTube interview.

“On or about 3 June, 2024, in an interview hosted by one Katumbi, you publicly made highly defamatory utterances against our client,” part of the letter, posted by Kioko on his Instagram account, read.

Kioko’s defence said the interview was subsequently uploaded to a YouTube channel and disseminated widely on social media, containing remarks that the plaintiff’s legal team contends are both false and malicious.

“The said utterances were uploaded a video on the YouTube channel by the name “Katumbi” and was widely circulated across all social media platforms.

“Your allegations and innuendos against our client are wholly false and deceptive and without basis whatsoever and which have amounted to gross and blatant misrepresentation of facts,” the letter added.

Kioko’s defence asserts that the statements have inflicted significant harm on their client’s reputation, prompting them to issue a demand for retraction and apology within a tight timeframe of three days.

“Our instructions are therefore to DEMAND from you, as we hereby do, an immediate and unequivocal retraction of the story aforementioned, together with an unequivocal apology for the publication and fur the highly defamatory imputations conveyed by it, in such terms as shall be approved by our client, after which we may be at liberty to address the question of damages for the loss of reputation suffered by our client,” the letter said.

Should Kasolo fail to acquiesce to these demands, Kioko’s legal team has vowed to pursue legal recourse.

“TAKE NOTICE that unless we hear from you on the above within three (3) days of the date hereof we have irrevocable instructions to file a suit against you at your peril as to costs and attendant consequences.”
