Charlene Ruto elated after being given Kamba name Mwende in Kitui

First Daughter Charlene Ruto is beyond ecstatic after the warm reception she received during her two-day visit to Kitui County.

Charlene was particularly excited about being given a Kamba name ‘Mwende’ meaning ‘loved one’.

“We mentored. We danced. We planted trees. And I was given a Kamba name ‘Mwende’ meaning loved one. And oh, how I love Kitui County. Till next time,” Charlene shared.

Charlene was in the region to spearhead the Zero Barefoot Campaign, a charitable initiative aimed at providing shoes to needy children.

During her visit, more than 3,000 pupils from 20 primary schools in the Mutomo and Ikutha sub-counties received new shoes.

Charlene given Kisii name

In May 2023, the First Daughter visited Kisii County where she was given the Kisii name ‘Nyaboke’ which means honey in the Kisii dialect.

In a statement, Charlene termed the Kisii youths as “ambitious youths that are very talented in music and the arts”.

“Kisii County has amassed a cohort of ambitious youth that are very talented in music and the arts; which are areas we will be collaborating in as we look forward to youth empowerment. Massive thanks to them for hosting us and giving me my new name “Nyaboke” which means Honey,” she stated.

Charlene was hosted by the Kisii County Universities and Colleges Association and held a discussion with the youth on innovation and climate change.

“I was hosted by the Kisii County Universities & Colleges Association where we had a discussion on innovation and climate change. It was such a thrill to witness and interact with the various innovations that the young people at Kisii are coming up with,” she added.

Charlene Ruto’s profile

Charlene, the third daughter of President William Ruto, graduated from Daystar University with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication.

She also earned a Master of Business Administration from Les Roches Crans-Montana in Switzerland and spent time as a Foreign Exchange student at Northwestern College from August 2012 to January 2013.

Recently, Charlene has been travelling across the country, engaging with young people and meeting with political leaders such as governors, deputy governors, and members of county assemblies.
