Comedian-cum-activist Eric Omondi has refunded Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria for sponsoring his trip to the US eight years ago.

Sharing a video on his Instagram page, well-dressed in a sleek blue suit and red tie, Eric Omondi is seen holding a huge bundle of Ksh1,000 notes and giving some to CS Moses Kuria.

The Cabinet Secretary on the other hand, equally dressed in a navy blue suit, is seen stretching his right hand and receiving the money as it’s being handed to him.

Paying his dues

Eric through his caption confirmed that indeed he was making a refund to the politician after he funded his trip.

“Today I have officially refunded Mheshimiwa all his money that he used to pay for my trip to the USA. Hio ingine nimemtumia na @officialpaysii Malipo ni hapa Duniani.” Eric stated.

In a previous interview, Eric once revealed that his first travel to the US was with Comedian Chipukeezy around 2018/17, and it was courtesy of Moses Kuria who was then Gatundu Member of Parliament.

Eric further stated that when he opened his offices and Big Tyme Productions, Moses Kuria called him countless times to encourage and advise him.

Where it all began

The misunderstanding between Eric and CS Kuria, dates back to some time in June 2023, when Eric was accused of unfairly criticising the government. Then, CS Moses Kuria took a swipe at Eric and expressed regret over his support for the comedian.

In 2023, shortly after Eric began his activism, he attended a debate on live television which focused on government policies and public welfare.

Omondi took the opportunity to air his grievances against President William Ruto’s administration. He accused the government of making empty promises and diverting attention from pressing issues affecting Kenyans.

In response to Omondi’s criticism, CS Kuria did not hold back, he openly disclosed of his financial support to the comedian.

Kuria claimed to have sponsored Omondi’s trip to the United States eight years ago and expressed remorse for what he felt was a wasted opportunity.

The cabinet secretary suggested that instead of supporting Omondi’s career, he should have used the money for personal enjoyment.

“Ni lazima tuwe watu ambao tunajilinganisha na dunia nzima. Nimeskia Eric akisema ni kijana. Miaka saba iliyopita nilichukua pesa yangu nikampeleka America ndio aone vile dunia iko. Saa hii vile anaongea, afadhali ningetumia hio pesa kwa sherehe,” CS Moses Kuria said.
