Congo President enjoys evening game drive at Nairobi National Park

Republic of Congo President Dennis Sassou Nguesso enjoyed an evening game drive at the Nairobi National Park on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, during his visit to Kenya.

President Nguesso who is part of the high-level delegation of the African Development Bank (AfDB) is in the country for the group’s annual meeting at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The Congolese head of state was treated to an evening game drive in the company of Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Alfred Mutua.

Nguesso got to sample the sights and sounds at the iconic Nairobi National Park which boasts as ‘the world’s only wildlife in the capital’.

“During the game drive, they experienced the unique charm and rich biodiversity of Nairobi National Park, encountering a diverse array of wildlife, including iconic species such as rhinos and lions,” a statement from the Kenya Wildlife Service noted.

AfDB summit

The African Development Bank (AfDB) annual summit is set to host up to 3,000 delegates, among them senior government officials and heads of state from across the region.

This year’s theme for Annual Meetings is ‘Africa’s Transformation, the African Development Bank Group, and the Reform of the Global Financial Architecture.’

“The knowledge events will also address the importance of a reconfigured global financial architecture as an engine for structural transformation, and the Bank Group’s contribution towards Africa’s socio-economic transformation in its 60 years of existence,” a statement from AfDB read.

AfDB invite-only sessions

The meetings will comprise member States’ invitation-only sessions, closed bilateral meetings, as well as events open to all attendees, including the press.

The other senior African leaders present are African Union Committee president Moussa Faki Mahamat and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

President William Ruto is expected to host the heads of state to a state dinner on Wednesday at the State House after delivering his remarks at KICC.
