President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto have honoured the sacrifices of American soldiers by laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery in the United States.

Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, is one of the most famous military cemeteries in the United States. It serves as the final resting place for many American soldiers and notable figures in history.

The wreath-laying took place following a brief meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House after his much-anticipated visit.

“We honour the U.S. Army for defending and serving their nation with diligence. Through their sacrifice, we have a freer and better world for everyone. At the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, paid our respects to the United States of America’s fallen heroes,” Ruto stated on his X account.

The Head of State and his spouse Mama Rachel paid tribute to the historic figures such as Thurgood Marshall and John F. Kennedy.

Biden welcomes Ruto

Earlier US President Joe Biden welcomed President Ruto to the White House on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, marking the official start of Ruto’s state visit to the United States.

During a brief moment with the press, Biden noted that President Ruto’s visit had been eagerly anticipated, highlighting the enthusiasm of his team.

“Our people and innovators are excited about this, I mean, I have never seen my team excited about a visit in a long time,” Biden said.

Ruto’s arrival in Washington, DC, on Wednesday marked the formal commencement of his state visit, even though he had landed in the US on Monday.

This visit also coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kenya and the United States.

Biden Reflected on the long-standing partnership between the two nations reminiscing on his visit to Nairobi when he was Vice President.

“Mr President, I can’t thank you enough. When I visited Nairobi as Vice President, I stressed that the true strength of Kenya was its people; innovators, activists, entrepreneurs, and so many people like you. Today, as we honour 60 years of ties between our countries, it is true that our people are the true strengths of this partnership and a partnership that is working well,” Biden expressed.
