Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has reacted after Bumula MP Jack Wamboka told him to move on from his love affair with Maryanne Kitany.

Appearing before an 11-member committee trying his impeachment case, Linturi termed the resurfacing of the affair during the trial as unfortunate.

“You remember yesterday (Wednesday) the mover of the motion who is here (Bumula MP Jack Wamboka) had the audacity to tell me ‘ukiachwa achika’. You know what that means, niachwe niachike. People have relationships (which) may not work. To what extend can you completely push them?” Linturi posed.

“It is unfortunate but because these issues have been raised here I have to mention them. It would not be my wish because probably my children are watching. It is a very trying moment. Some things we leave to God because there is nothing much we can do but when we are faced with such matters, because we must clear ourselves, we must speak.”

Wamboka vs Linturi

Speaking on Wednesday, Wamboka termed Linturi as a jilted lover, following his responses to the committee which touched on his past with Kitany.

“I’ve looked at the documents submitted by my good friend Mithika Linturi, and this is nothing more than a love letter from a jilted lover. That these are grave matters of national importance to be reduced to love matters. Ukiachwa achika,” Wamboka stated.

“This is a case of gross violations of the Constitution and gross misconduct. If the country is food secure then you have a healthy nation. This motion highlights various violations meted up against innocent Kenyans through distribution of fake fertilizer.”

In his defence, Linturi said he has been through a painful journey in life, which was manifesting itself through the impeachment motion before Parliament.

Linturi, who denied any wrongdoing, lamented that his case has been linked to personal cases of love and affection, relating to his previous relationship.

“Whatever I’ve gone through for a number of years which is also manifesting itself here is not something I would wish on any human being. It has been a long painful journey. When I thought I had gone through that kind of trauma, the motion is here with the same stories that I’ve been trying to fight for years,” Linturi said.

Linturi is facing charges of gross misconduct, serious breaches of public trust, mismanagement of the resources as well as gross violation of various provisions of the constitution by approving the procurement and distribution of fake fertilizer by the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), signing an agency agreement with 51 Capital and Africa Diatomite industries on March 31 2022 for the supply and distribution of GPC diatomaceous whose product was not sold as chemical fertiliser but a soil conditioner.
