Three people have been confirmed dead after an accident involving a 14-seater matatu and a trailer at Sobea along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway on Saturday afternoon.
While confirming the unfortunate incident, Nakuru County Commander Samuel Ndanyi stated that the matatu was headed to Eldoret from Nakuru when it collided with the trailer which had veered off the road damaging its entire front part of the vehicle.
Ndanyi added that two of the victims died on the spot, and their bodies were moved to the Annex Hospital Funeral Home.
The third person died while receiving treatment at the Nakuru Referral Hospital where the other injured persons are being treated.
“One patient died while receiving emergency treatment. Three others are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while nine others received soft tissue injuries and are responding well to treatment,” Nakuru Referral Hospital Superintendent James Waweru said.
The latest comes weeks after six people died in an accident involving a lorry and a Toyota Probox along the Kericho-Nakuru highway.
Authorities who visited the scene said the accident occurred when the probox attempted to overtake a fleet of vehicles, colliding with the lorry.
The authorities confirmed that six passengers aboard the probox died on the spot while one person was rushed to the Kericho County Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Preliminary reports revealed that it was raining heavily when the unfortunate incident occurred.
